Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell, an American journalist and a commentator working with NBC News in Washington D.C., is a television anchor. She graduated with an Bachelor of Arts degree in English literature from the University of Pennsylvania after growing to be a part of New York City. Mitchell started as a radio and TV reporter in Philadelphia, KYW Radio and TV. Mitchell joined CBS station WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. In Washington she was made general correspondent by NBC News two year later. Beginning in 1981 she began covering the White House. In 1988 she was named head of the congressional reporters. She became the chief White House reporter in 1992 as well as the chief Foreign Affairs correspondent at NBC News. Mitchell has appeared as an anchor and a panelist on the TV news show Meet the Press. Mitchell was a panelist in the 1988 presidential debates between George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005 at the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg the award in 2004 for her work in defending First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell's first White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. The time span covered both Ronald Reagan terms in office. She has covered several notable stories over time, including the tax reforms, budget reforms as well as an investigation into the Iran Contra scandal. She traveled extensively together with Reagan as well as Mikhail Gorbachev to world summits.
